Covington Police, Kenton CAO, Probation & Parole Partner to Check Up on Registered Sex Offenders
Covington Police detectives, Kenton CAO prosecutors, and Kentucky Probation & Parole officers partnered on the evening of January 23, 2013, to conduct home visits on every registered sex offender within Covington city limits.
The purpose of this “bed check” is to confirm the accuracy of information provided by the sex offenders to the Kentucky State Police who maintain Kentucky’s sex offender registry. If any offender is not living at their registered address, evidence will be collected and a warrant of arrest will be sought.
By verifying the residence of every registered sex offender in one night, Covington Police will have a baseline to conduct smaller periodic checks on a regular basis.
The Kenton CAO is partnering with police to build solid cases on any sex offender in violation of registration requirements and hopes to expand the operation to other cities in Kenton County throughout the year. This proactive approach is a first of its kind, aimed to identify sex offenders who are unaccounted for and in violation of Kentucky law.
Results of tonight’s operation will be available tomorrow morning after each of three team’s results are compiled and analyzed.
