Copper Thieves Plead Guilty, Face 10 Years in Prison
On March 7, 2013, brothers Mark and Daniel Ball pled guilty to 1st Degree Criminal Mischief and 1st Degree Persistent Felony Offender in connection with their arrest by numerous Covington Police officers on July 14, 2012. Police were called to Donna Salyer’s Fabulous Furs when a resident of a nearby apartment high rise spotted the brothers on the roof of the business, ripping copper out of HVAC units. Officers surrounded the building then called for a fire truck to put a ladder up to the roof. One officer’s body camera captured video of the Ball brothers, still tearing apart the HVAC. Rather than surrender, the brothers ran from officers and eventually jumped from the roof to the ground below where they were then captured by other officers. After receiving medical treatment for injuries sustained jumping from the roof, the Balls were transported to jail. Both brothers have an extensive criminal history. Commonwealth’s Attorney Rob Sanders is recommending a 10 year sentence for both. Final sentencing is scheduled for April 8, 2013 before Kenton Circuit Judge Gregory Barlett.
