Prosecutorial Externship Program
A key priority for our Commonwealth’s Attorney, Rob Sanders, since he took office in January 2007, has been to train and cultivate young prosecutorial talent by strengthening the office’s externship program. The program is one of the best in Kentucky and offers a hands-on, aggressive program that allows externs to work with our staff and attorneys on everything — from administrative duties to assisting prosecutors in the courtroom. Some externs even obtain a “limited license,” allowing them to practice law in a courtroom under the supervision of one of the fully licensed attorneys in our office.
This valuable experience is what each extern makes of it. Many externs, once they complete the program and law school, go on to become Assistant Commonwealth’s Attorneys in our office, work as prosecutors in other parts of Kentucky or in other states, or enter private practice with valuable experience.
To learn more about the externship program, please download this PDF overview. Students may submit their resumes to Maria Schletker at mschletker@prosecutors.ky.gov.
