Timothy Lee Delehanty Arrested for 2006 Murder
COVINGTON- On January 21, 2024, Elsmere Police Detective Nick Klaiss arrested Timothy Lee Delehanty, 36, for the 2006 killing of Paul Clayton in Elsmere. Delehanty was charged with Murder and lodged in the Kenton County Detention Center where he is being held without bond. Delehanty was scheduled for arraignment January 22, 2024 but jail staff indicated Delehanty refused to exit his cell so the court appearance was rescheduled for January 23, 2024 at 8:00am.
Elsmere Police were called to Clayton’s residence at 57 Eagle Drive on December 2, 2006 after Clayton’s co-workers went to check on him because he had not been seen since November 30, 2006. They called police after seeing Clayton on the floor of his residence covered in blood. Police found the door unsecured and determined Clayton was dead from apparent stab wounds. Police also discovered Clayton’s 1996 Ford Thunderbird missing. The car was later located in Covington.
Clayton was listed as a suspect in the original police report but had never been charged. On January 21, 2024, Delehanty was in contact with Covington Police when he told officers he wanted to speak to them about a 2006 Murder in Elsmere. Covington officers contact Elsmere Police who dispatched Detective Klaiss to the Covington Police Department. After speaking with Delehanty, Klaiss arrested him.
Under Kentucky law, Murder is punishable by 20-50 years or Life in prison. A charge is an allegation and all defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in court.
